SPORTS DAY CELEBRATIONS

The Sports Day events at L.R.G. Government Arts College for Women have been a significant part of the institutions calendar, enhancing physical fitness, teamwork, and a spirit of healthy competition among students. Each year, a diverse range of sports and games are organized, providing students with opportunities to showcase their athletic skills and sportsmanship across various disciplines.

In 2023-24, the events began with Chess on 18.10.2023, followed by Shot put and Volleyball on 03.01.2024, Disc throw and Kabaddi on 04.01.2024, and Throwball and Table Tennis on 05.01.2024. The highlight of the year was the Sports Day Celebration held on 02.02.2024, with Mr. Praveen Kumar Abinapu, the Police Commissioner of Tirupur City, serving as the chief guest. The event provided students with a platform to compete and celebrate their achievements in sports. The year concluded with the Nari Shakti Fitness Run, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on 12.03.2024, emphasizing the importance of fitness and empowering women through physical activity.

The 2022-23 academic year also saw a wide variety of sports activities. The year kicked off with Chess on 16.02.2023, followed by Carrom on 20.02.2023, and Shot put, Discus throw, and Javelin on 21.02.2023. Kabaddi took place on 22.02.2023, and Volleyball on 24.02.2023. The Sports Day Celebration on 15.03.2023 was graced by Dr. S.F. Naseem Jan, Principal of Government Arts and Science College, Kangeyam, as the chief guest. To inspire students, a motivational webinar was held on 15.04.2023, featuring S. Maragatham, a former National Kabaddi player, who shared her experiences and offered valuable insights into the world of sports.

In 2019-20, the institution hosted a variety of sports on 05.03.2020, including Tennikoit, Shot put, Discus throw, Javelin, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Throwball, Shuttle, and Long jump. The Sports Day Celebration, also held on the same day, was a major event with Mr. A. Shanmugan, Managing Director of Jayachandra Textiles, Tirupur, as the chief guest. This day marked a culmination of competitive spirit, with students participating enthusiastically in the various events, striving for excellence.

In 2018-19, sports activities were equally diverse. Starting with Chess on 27.12.2018, the events continued with Shot put, Discus throw, and Javelin on 28.12.2018, and Kabaddi on 29.12.2018. February 2019 was packed with sports, including Volleyball and Kho-Kho on 12.02.2019, Throwball on 14.02.2019, Shuttle on 15.02.2019, and Long jump on 18.02.2019, culminating in Tennikoit on 19.02.2019. The Sports Day Celebration on 06.03.2019 was graced by Dr. K. Venkatachalam, Physical Director of Periyar University, Salem, as the chief guest, marking a successful end to the sports season.

These annual sports activities highlight the colleges commitment to promoting athleticism and fitness among students. The participation in various events not only enhances their physical abilities but also fosters qualities such as leadership, teamwork, and discipline. By organizing events at district and national levels, the institution empowers students to pursue excellence both academically and in the field of sports, contributing to their overall holistic development.
