L.R.G. Government Arts College for Women is situated on a sprawling 10.16-acre campus in the serene atmosphere amidst the bustling textile city of Tirupur. The land was generously donated by philanthropist Shri L.R.G. Naidu, after whom the college is named. The college began its journey on 15th July 1971, with an initial intake of 221 students, driven by L.R.G. Naidu's vision of educating women. Over the years, it has grown into a Post Graduate and Research Institution, providing high-quality education to women from Tirupur, Nilgiris, and Erode districts.
The college is affiliated with Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, and recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. It holds the AISHE ID C - 41050. Committed to inclusive and equitable quality education, the college aims to promote lifelong learning opportunities. It serves a diverse community, allowing students to take exams in either Tamil (regional language) or English for their convenience.
Initially offering undergraduate courses in Tamil and History in 1972, the college has now expanded to offer 17 Undergraduate, 9 Postgraduate, and 9 Research Programmes, with a student strength of 4,251. The institution boasts a well-qualified and experienced faculty of 163 members, supported by 30 non-teaching staff.
