The Computer Literacy Programme (CLP), launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the academic year 2000-2001, aims to improve computer literacy among undergraduate students from non-computer science disciplines in all government colleges. This initiative was designed to provide students with essential computer knowledge and updated systems to support their educational and professional growth.Initially, a dedicated lab was established with 25 computers and necessary equipment, and a certificate course was conducted in collaboration with National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT for a period of five years. In 2005-2006, the CLP lab and its equipment were handed over to the college by NIIT, allowing the programme to continue successfully for first-year undergraduate students.Under this program, students are trained on the introduction to computer, operating system (Windows and Linux), MS-Office, DTP & multimedia, networking concepts, internet and its applications, creating web pages and introduction to word processor. The course, offered at a fee of Rs. 1000/-, spans eleven months and includes 90 hours of practical sessions and 60 hours of theory classes. Upon completion, students undergo an examination conducted by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai, and successful candidates receive a valid certificate.
