The Department of Physics has a long-standing history of academic excellence, beginning with the establishment of its B.Sc. Physics program in 1985. Over the years, the department has grown in both scope and stature, reflecting its commitment to advancing knowledge and research in the field of physics. In 2018, the department made significant step forward by introducing part-time M.Phil and Ph.D. programs, catering to the needs of working professionals and researchers who seek to advance their academic pursuits. These programs are designed to deep research engagement, with a particular emphasis on generating product-based research outcomes. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, each tailored to specific experimental needs. These include dedicated labs for general physics experiments, which provide a foundational understanding of various physical phenomena, and specialized electronics laboratories that support experimentation in electronic systems and devices. The availability of these well-equipped laboratories ensures that students and researchers have access to the tools and resources necessary for conducting cutting-edge experiments. Research within the department is focused on three key areas of specialization: Crystal Growth, Polymer Nano Composites, and Nano Fluids. These fields represent the forefront of modern physics research, with applications that span across multiple industries. Crystal Growth research explores the formation and development of crystalline materials, which are essential in areas like semiconductors and optics. Polymer Nano Composites research explores the integration of polymers with nanomaterials, leading to the creation of materials with enhanced mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Nano Fluids research investigates the behavior of fluids that contain nanoscale particles, with implications for heat transfer, energy efficiency, and various industrial processes.

ACADEMICS

The department also supports the academic and research needs of its faculty and students through an exclusive library. This facility provides immediate access to a vast collection of books, e-books and reference materials. Many of our graduates are employed in state and central government sectors, while others have become successful entrepreneurs.
