The Mathematics Department at L.R.G. Government Arts College for Women is a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Our mission is to provide students with a comprehensive education in mathematics, preparing them for careers in academia, industry, and government. The Mathematics Department began functioning from the college's inception. Initially, the subject was taught as an allied subject to B.Sc. Physics, statistics, and Commerce students. The B.Sc( Mathematics) program with Statistics and Physics as ancillary subjects, was introduced in June 1976. The initial sanctioned strength was 25 students each for the English and Tamil mediums. Permanent affiliation for the B.Sc. (Mathematics) course was granted by Bharathiar University via R.C. 5254C1/87 dated 17.03.1988. The M.Sc. (Mathematics) course received university approval during the 2003-2004 academic year. Recognition for the M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs was granted, subject to Bharathiar University's rules and regulations, from the year 2017.
