The Youth Red Cross (YRC) at L.R.G College, established in 2020, is a significant part of the Indian Red Cross Society (Tamil Nadu branch). Like all branches of the Youth Red Cross, the YRC at L.R.G College is a non-religious, non-political, and non-sectarian humanitarian organization, dedicated to the mission of alleviating human suffering without any form of discrimination.

 

Mission and Principles

The YRC at L.R.G College operates under the broader mission of the International Red Cross, which was founded by Jean Henry Dunant in 1863 after he was moved by the plight of wounded soldiers during the Battle of Solferino. The YRC at L.R.G College upholds the same humanitarian principles and is guided by three fundamental objectives:

  1. Promotion of Health and Life: Ensuring the physical well-being of individuals through health education and health-related activities.
  2. Service to the Sick and the Suffering: Providing aid and comfort to those in need, especially during times of illness or disaster.
  3. Promotion of National and International Friendship: Fostering peace, understanding, and goodwill among the youth to enhance their mental and moral development.

Activities and Initiatives

One of the key activities undertaken by the YRC at L.R.G College is conducting awareness programs, particularly focusing on public health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. These efforts include:

  • Corona Virus Awareness Campaigns: Educating the community and students about the COVID-19 virus, its prevention, and the importance of health and safety measures.
  • Preventive Education: Organizing sessions and distributing informational materials to students in higher education institutions to prevent the outbreak and spread of the Novel Corona Virus.

The YRC at L.R.G College aims to empower youth to contribute to society through active participation in humanitarian efforts, thereby nurturing a generation that values health, service, and global cooperation.
