L.R.G. Government Arts College for Women was established as a pioneer institution for providing higher education to women from Tirupur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Erode region by the Government of TamilNadu on the red lettered day 15th July, 1971. The land was generously donated by philanthropist Shri L.R.G. Naidu with the vision of educating women. Hence, the college is named after him. The college began its journey with pre university, two undergraduate courses and an initial intake of 221 students, Over the years, it has grown with leaps and bounds to offer 17 Undergraduate, 9 Postgraduate, and 9 Research Programmes with a student enrolment of 4,251. It is situated on a sprawling 10.16-acre green campus in the serene atmosphere amidst the bustling textile city of Tirupur. The college is affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, and recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. It holds the AISHE ID C - 41050. The college aims to promote lifelong learning opportunities and committed to inclusive and equitable quality education. It serves a diverse community, offering parallel media of instruction to take up the courses in either Tamil (regional language) or English. The institution boasts a well-qualified and experienced faculty of 163 members, supported by 30 non- teaching staff.
