The department of Zoology was established in 1971 as Science Department. The under graduate course was started in the year 1974 and the post graduate course was started in the year 2013.The department was upgraded as research department in the year 2017 with full time and part time Ph.D., course  and  M.Phil., Course. Our faculty members are specialized on Environmental biotechnology, Animal Behavior, Ecology, Entomology, Sericulture, Biodiversity conservation and Microbiology. The faculty members continuously engage themselves not only in academic achievement of students but also in research activities and publish their findings in reputed journals of national and international status. Generally, seminar and Association meetings conducted by our department focuses on themes such as environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation and recent advance techniques in biology. As a regular practice, various programmes such as Students’ association meetings, seminars, workshops, study tours, cultural activities, lab visits, farm visits, field visits, etc are conducted to gain practical knowledge, to inculcate in the minds of students scientific interest and at the same time to expose their hidden talents.

ACADEMICS

The under graduate course is offered both in Tamil and English medium. The sanctioned strength for intake of students is 50 for UG Zoology and 50 for PG Zoology. The department offers Allied Zoology Course for I B.Sc., Botany and I B.Sc., Chemistry students.
