The Physical Education Department at L.R.G. Government Arts College for Women, established in 1972, is dedicated to enhance the overall physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of students. With a strong focus on promoting good health and optimal fitness, the department strives to instil a lifelong commitment to physical activity and wellness. The department is guided by a Sports Committee, which includes the Principal, Physical Director, staff members, and the Sports Secretary from the student body. Sports Committee plan the sports schedule for each academic year.

The college offers a well-equipped sports field for various outdoor activities, including Silambam, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Throwball, Athletics, Kho-Kho, Shuttle, and Badminton. Indoor sports such as Chess, Carrom, and Table Tennis are also actively promoted. L.R.G. College has built a reputation for excellence in sports, with teams regularly participating in District, State, and National level competitions. Our students have represented the college in events like the Bharathiar University Inter-College Tournaments and the CM Trophy Competitions, winning numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals. Specialized coaching is provided in Kabaddi, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Silambam, with former State and District-level athletes, who are alumni of the college, returning to mentor and train the current generation of sports students. Additionally, our students receive expert coaching from a former National Kabaddi player and a State-level Volleyball coach.

The department emphasizes the holistic development of students through sports. All students are divided into four groups, and various sporting events are organized for them throughout the year. The annual Sports Day is a highlight of the academic calendar, featuring a wide array of games and events for students, staff, and non-teaching staff, promoting a spirit of teamwork and healthy competition.
