CONSUMER PROTECTION COUNCIL


The basic necessity for a human life is food. The profit motive traders do adulteration in food items. Food adulteration is made not only to increase profit but also made to retain its property, enhance the taste, add colors to make the food items attractive.
The consumer protection council aims to create awareness among the students about the adulterations made in the food items and the ill-health issues because of it. The student members of this club are inculcated with the awareness about the various adulteration techniques, detection methods and the health issues caused due it. The student members of this club are advised to share the awareness what they learn to the other members.



Activities conducted in the council:

1. On 10.01.2019 the consumer protection council meet was conducted Miss.M.Gowthami the student secretary from III B.Com. I Shift delivered the welcome speech and Dr.R.Amsaveni the co-ordinator of the council and Assistant Professor of Commerce, delivered the aim of the council, Dr.P.Ponmuthuramalingam, Principal presided over the function and delivered presidential address, Dr.G.SUBA the co-ordinator of the council and the Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Food Science and Nutrition gave a special speech about the food adulterations prevalent in food industry, the health risks caused by adulteration in the food items and also about the detection methods. The various credentials marks to ensure the quality like FSSAI, AGMARK were discussed. The side effects caused by consuming the adulterated foods were discussed. Dr.S.Janaki, co-ordinator of the council and Assistant Professor of Mathematics delivered greetings and finally, the vote of thanks was given by Miss.R.Arthi, the student joint secretary of this council from II B.Com. I Shift. Dr.N.Sheeba, co-ordinator of the council and Assistant Professor of Zoology co-ordinated the activities.
2. On 07.02.2019 the consumer protection council meet was conducted Miss.M.Gowthami the student secretary from III B.Com. I Shift delivered the welcome speech and Dr.R.Amsaveni the co-ordinator of the council and Assistant Professor of Commerce, addressed the aim of the council and its focus towards creating awareness about the food adulteration, Presidential address was given by Dr.P.Ponmuthuramalingam, Principal, Dr.G.SUBA, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Food Science and Nutrition explained about the practical identification of adulteration in food. How the adulterations are done in the food items like tea, coffee, ghee, salt, chilli powder, rice and jaggery were put in plain words and by practically using the chemicals how the adulterated food can be identified were shown and awareness about the adulterated food and detecting the adulterations were conversed. Dr.L.Priya, co-ordinator of the council and Assistant Professor of Physics delivered greetings and finally, the vote of thanks was given by Miss.R.Arthi, the student joint secretary of this council from II B.Com. I Shift.
